With the newly launched ‘Green Deal’ the government is aiming on making homes in the UK more energy efficient and there are some important implications for Landlords renting their properties.
• From 2016 landlords will be unable to refuse reasonable requests from tenants on Green Deal improvements
• After 2018 landlords will be forbidden from letting any properties with poor energy ratings
The government is offering a grant to help facilitate these improvements and it is an ideal opportunity for landlords to assess whether they qualify for the grant. The government has warned it will take strong measures against those landlords who do not comply.
